Set up your family on Famaly

A quick walkthrough to get your household up and running — create your account, bring everyone in, and start using the everyday features. Most families are set up in under ten minutes.

1 Create your account

The first grown-up to sign up becomes the family owner — you'll manage members and invites.

  1. Go to portal.famaly.ai (or tap Create your family on our home page) — or download the app and choose Create account.
  2. Enter your first name, surname, email, mobile number and a password (at least 8 characters). Adding your date of birth is optional — it powers birthday reminders.
  3. Choose a plan. Starter is free forever; Famaly Plus adds the AI meal planner and price tracking with a 30-day free trial.
  4. That's it — you're signed in and looking at your family dashboard.
Tip: Famaly keeps you signed in, so you'll rarely need to log in again on your own device. Forgot your password? Use the Forgot your password? link on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a reset link.

2 Set up your household

Everything starts from the My family page — your household's home base.

Here you'll see two groups:

  • Household members — the grown-ups (and older kids) who each get their own login.
  • Kids — profiles for children who don't need a login of their own (used for chores, pocket money, birthdays and the roster).

Set your own date of birth here if you skipped it at sign-up, and add your household's allergies — the meal planner uses them to keep suggestions safe.

3 Invite household members

Bring your partner and other grown-ups into the family so everyone shares the same calendar, chat and lists.

Send an invite

  1. On the My family page, find the Invite a household member box.
  2. Optionally type the person's email address and we'll email them the invite directly. Leave it blank to just get a shareable link and code.
  3. Select Create invite. You'll get a unique invite link and a short code.
  4. Share the link (or read out the code) — or, if you entered an email, they'll receive it from support@famaly.ai. The invite table shows who each one was sent to.

What the invited person does

  1. They open the link, or go to portal.famaly.ai / the app and choose Join your family.
  2. They enter the invite code (already filled in if they used the link), then their name, email and a password.
  3. They're in — instantly part of your family with access to the shared spaces.
Good to know: Invites expire after 7 days and can only be used once. As the owner you can revoke a pending invite any time from the invite table, or resend by creating a new one.
Forgotten passwords for a member? As the owner you can reset a member's password from the My family page — they'll simply sign in again with the new one.

4 Add your kids

Kid profiles don't have a login — they're for chores, pocket money, birthdays and the family roster.

  1. On My family, under Kids, choose Add a kid.
  2. Enter their first name, pick an emoji avatar (or upload a photo — tap the camera icon on their badge), and add their date of birth for birthday reminders.
  3. Open a kid's profile any time to track growth and milestones — you can attach photos, videos and PDFs to each milestone.
Kids grow up: when a child is old enough for their own login, use Promote to household member on their profile to turn it into a full member account.

Profile photos: anyone can set their own photo from the My family table (tap your avatar's camera icon). As the owner you can also set photos for the kids.

5 Family chat

A private space for the whole household — plus optional channels for smaller groups.

  • Open Family chat to message everyone in your family. Unread messages show a red count next to the menu item.
  • Tap the paperclip to send a photo, video, PDF or document. Large images are compressed automatically so they send fast.
  • Create a private channel (tap + on the channel bar) for a sub-group — say "Mum & Dad" or "Holiday planning".
  • Channels can include people outside your family: share the channel's invite code and they can join that channel only, without seeing the rest of your family's space.

6 Calendar, chores & to-dos

The day-to-day running of the household, shared so nothing falls through the cracks.

Shared calendar

Open Calendar to add events everyone can see — appointments, school runs, sport. Great for "who's doing pickup?".

To-do list

Under To-do list, assign any task to anyone in the family. Each person can filter to just their own list.

Chores & pocket money

In Chores, set recurring chores for the kids, attach a pocket-money reward, and mark them done. As the owner you approve and pay out rewards.

Runs & roster

Runs & roster helps you divvy up regular duties (school runs, pet feeding) across the household.

7 Meals & shopping Plus

Answer "what's for dinner?" without the daily debate.

  • In Meals, tap Plan my whole week for an AI-generated 7-day dinner plan — built around what's in your fridge and your household's allergies, with an estimated Woolworths basket cost.
  • Grab quick wins too: Lunchbox ideas (always nut-free) and gift ideas for each child or adult by age.
  • Apply a plan to your week, and the ingredients flow into your Shopping list.
Always double-check ingredients and labels yourself, especially for allergies — AI suggestions are a helping hand, not medical advice.

8 Fuel & grocery prices Plus

Spend a little less on the two things every family buys constantly.

  • Fuel prices shows the cheapest fuel near you, with up/down arrows so you can time the fill-up.
  • Grocery watch tracks prices on the items you buy most, flagging drops.

9 Safety & family map In the app

Peace of mind for when the family is out and about. These features live in the mobile app.

  • Live family map: see where everyone is, with arrival alerts — opt-in, and only ever visible to your own family.
  • Teen check-ins: older kids tap once to say "I'm at school" or "arrived at footy".
  • Crash & impact alerts: if a device detects a hard impact, your family is notified with the location.
Important: these are peace-of-mind features, not an emergency service. In an emergency always call 000. Location sharing is controlled by each person through their device's permission settings and can be turned off at any time.

10 Manage your account

  • Profile photo: tap your avatar's camera icon on the My family page.
  • Password: use Forgot your password? to reset it by email at any time.
  • Your plan: start on the free Starter plan and upgrade to Famaly Plus whenever the AI meal planner and price tracking earn their keep.
  • Signing out: use Log out (top right) on shared devices.
